Mary Berg is your Varsity Journal Player of the Week. Earlier this month, the senior basketball player from Menomonie joined an exclusive club when she hit a 3-pointer to put her over 1,000 career points.
Her milestone game came in a matchup vs. the visiting River Falls Wildcats. In that same game, she would go on to lead her team with 18 points total, along with 3 rebounds and 4 assists.
Berg has been rolling all year long, scoring on average over 14.3 points per game in the 2023-24 season. She also is known for her ability to shoot from beyond the arc, holding an impressive 3-point percentage of 41%.
Her play at the guard position has helped to lead the Menomonie Mustangs to a #1 seed in the WIAA Division 2 playoffs. Berg and the Mustangs will look to make a deep run into the postseason and compete for a chance at a state title.
Upon her graduation in the spring, Berg has committed to staying close to home and will play for her local UW-Stout Basketball team in the fall.
