Lucas sets new career scoring record for Comets

Thor Johnson - Varsity Journal

The Cameron Comets boys basketball team has a new all-time scoring leader. On February 22, Tyson Lucas made history with a layup, adding to his career points total, and surpassing the previous school record of 1,480 points.

Lucas, a senior, has been red-hot for the Comets all season long, averaging 19.7 points per game. In his record-breaking night last Thursday, he led the team once again in the scoring category, putting up 22 points in a 76-39 win over Ashland.

The previous record of 1,480 had been set by Gunner Wilder back in 2018. Now Lucas leads the way with 1,487.

This latest accolade will be added to a Cameron team that has had no shortage of success. The Comets are Heart O’North Conference Champions once again, and the team boasts a regular season record of 22-2.

Their playoff bid begins on March 1, as the 2-seed Comets will face off against the Shell Lake Lakers. Lucas and the rest of his teammates will look to make a deep run this postseason, with their eyes set on the Kohl Center for the State Tournament come mid-March.

After graduation, Lucas will continue his basketball career this fall as he is committed to playing for the UW-Eau Claire Blugolds.
