Updated: Feb 15, 2024

Chippewa Falls Hockey is your Varsity Journal’s February Boys Team of the Month. The Chi-Hi Cardinals have been on a tear as of late, coming into February on an 11-game win streak, which has them ranked as the top team in Division 1, according to Wisconsin Prep Hockey.

The Cardinals have faced tough opposition all year but have stayed sharp, thanks in part to strong defensive play from starting goalie Mick Marlow. Marlow, a senior, has been a brick wall between the posts, holding an impressive .930 save percentage on the year.

Offensively the team has seen 5 skaters reach double-digit goal totals on the season. Gus Thorp, Evan Foiles, Drew Bowe, Mason Johnson, and Jackson Hoem have all surpassed the 10-goal threshold.

Hoem currently leads the team with 19 goals and 21 assists on the season. Three of these goals were added to his tally in a recent January 14 matchup vs. the visiting River Falls Wildcats. Hoem would go on to score his second hat trick of the season in this game, posting 3 goals and 2 assists in a decisive 7-1 victory over the Wildcats.

The Cardinals are coached by Scott Parker and Bob Thorp, and assisted by Austin Taylor, Austin Redders, and Chase Hoople. Be sure to follow along with the team the rest of the month as they look to stay atop the Big Rivers Conference and make a deep postseason run.
